Born 11 PM yesterday, after 42 hours of labor. Walter Alan. We’re in Logan, Utah, where my daughter lives, hoping they’ll get sprung from the hospital tomorrow. 14-hour drive, it was... Mrs. Vandura is stoked. Daughter of Rusty is in great spirits, but exhausted and in pain because extruding Walter did some damage to some parts . Son-in-law of Rusty said, this morning, “He’s even cuter this morning.” While my objectivity is most certainly in doubt, I think Walter is a beautiful baby.

Congratulations grampa! That is indeed a cute kid. You are going to have to come up with some easily pronounceable nickname or else he’ ll do it for you. You may think you have a while to think it over but it’ll happen sooner than you think.

Thank you. Mrs. Vandura is over the moon. (I’m feeling pretty emotional about it as well.)

Thanks, Bro.

We like that old-schoolness as well. And thank you.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:02 |

We’re both eager to hear what he comes up with. I’ve been stockpiling toys for decades to play with him. And thank you.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:03 |

He’s gotten some good ones already. Like, “I used to be good, then I got bored.”

Thank you, Svend.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:04 |

I began that process years ago buying toys we can play with together. And thank you.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:04 |

Thank you. It sounds dumb, but I’m looking forward to changing his diaper.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:04 |

And dramatic...

Gracias.

Things are looking pretty good. Big news today was that Mom ate, kept her food down, and took a nap. Walter only wants to sleep.

Thank you, Sir!

That is a corn fed kiddo!

Awesome! Great to hear.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:20 |

That Big Toe! Mrs. Vandura and I have been laughing about that all day.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:21 |

Grandpa's eclectic collection of toys is always interesting to a little kid. Novelty refreshes between visits.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:24 |

This is a delightful production I’ve viewed many times.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:32 |

42 hours
He’s a pretty big kiddo (but totally freakin adorable!). Congrats to all and I hope Mom recovers quickly!
![]() 07/22/2020 at 19:34 |

42 hours of labor. (with no exclamation mark)
WOW
Also congrats on mom and baby boy being healthy.

He is a b ea ut in that last photo. i know you are related to Austin, I’ll let him RIP the track hawk... in 20 years.

Welcome Walter!
Congratulations to Rusty Vandura and family.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:39 |
|
Thank you. Yes, it was a long slog. But I’m hearing that daughter is up out of bed more and moving around on her own.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:40 |
|
Thank you. Things seem to be moving apace. Hopefully, we’ll get to change a diaper or something tomorrow.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:41 |

The toy record players were some of my favorites. And the wooden toy train tracks were endless hours of fun. You could have a sort of "Rusty's house of novelties" full of endless bemusement. The trick is to get old stuff that isn't in circulation back home.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:42 |
|
If you have an hour to spare, this production is a delight.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:43 |
|
Indeed. And a big box of yellow Lego and pretty much a complete collection of the Chevron cars and a train to run around the base of the Christmas tree...
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:43 |
|
Much thank you.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:45 |

That hour that elapsed was dinner hour, not me watching it, so good, err, guess? I watched a few minutes and it looked interesting. I can't say I've ever been into theater too much but I'll file that away. Next week might be the first time I've been bored AND not have been supposed to do something for months and months, since summer college will be over.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:46 |
|
Yeah. It’s the playing with Grandpa himself that is the sauce.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:50 |
|
Indeed. In my case the real memories were picking corn and running around the garden with my grandpa, since I could play indoors back home . Sadly I only ever knew one grandparent so I didn’t quite get the full experience.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:56 |
|
I didn’t mean to post that twice.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 20:57 |
|
We’re still pretty young, so hopefully, our grandkids will get to know us.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 21:02 |
|
You’re already getting soft in the head, Gramps. **wink wink** You can’t even blame Kinja for the double post this time.
I imagine being a grand parent is like being a parent except with more of the fun parts and less of the hard work and worrying.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 21:04 |

Congrats mate! Certainly a cutie! :)
![]() 07/22/2020 at 21:20 |

42 HOURS!
![]() 07/22/2020 at 21:42 |
|
Thank you. And thank you for the other conversation as well.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 21:45 |
|
Sounds like you’ve been prepping...
![]() 07/22/2020 at 22:12 |
|
Congratulations! First grandkid? Will be spoiled by grandpa while learning to diy like I was!
My first kiddos birth was not easy either, rough on ms mr as well as bruised head from from the "simpsons" forceps. Not the prettiest scene for sure
![]() 07/22/2020 at 22:33 |

Never heard childbirth referred to as “e xtruding a baby ”. This is now added to my lexicon of goofy shit.
![]() 07/22/2020 at 22:46 |
|
Well, I appropriated that word myself for this occasion. I may not be the first, but it was original to me! And given that Walter came out cone-headed, I think the ord choice is not entirely inappropriate.
Thanks for the note.

My sister is a NICU charge nurse. I’m going to try to add this term to her lexicon.

Is it just me or does this kid have some giant toes for a newborn? lol
![]() 07/23/2020 at 11:04 |

I am thrilled to have made such an important and impactful difference in the world.
